A donkey running loose in northern Germany injured three people on Friday after it jumped into a van and attacked the occupants, police said. The incident happened south of the coastal city of Cuxhaven, in the town of Holssel.
Police said passersby noticed the donkey, named Freddy, and a horse running loose at a roundabout. Two motorists tried to restrain the animal, but it “became very aggressive” and jumped into their van, kicking and biting them.
A 33-year-old woman who tried to help was taken to hospital. The two motorists sustained minor injuries, according to the police statement.
The animal’s owner later intervened and secured the donkey. Police said the reason for its aggressive reaction remains unclear.
