Berkshire Hathaway increased its stake in Alphabet in the second quarter, according to a regulatory filing released late Friday. The Omaha-based conglomerate added about 48.1 million shares, bringing its total Alphabet holding to roughly 106 million shares, worth about $37.76 billion at the end of June.
The filing also showed Berkshire increasing its exposure to homebuilders. Its stake in Lennar rose nearly 30% in the quarter, and it took a new small position in D.R. Horton. In July, Berkshire completed a $6.8 billion acquisition of Taylor Morrison.
At the same time, Berkshire trimmed several other positions, including holdings in financial companies such as Bank of America, Ally Financial and Capital One Financial, and it sold all of its shares in Constellation Brands. Market impact: the moves are likely mildly bullish for Alphabet and U.S. homebuilders, while the reduction in financial holdings is neutral to slightly negative for the affected banks and lenders.
