LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz sent a bill to the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that seeks to generate legal security and attract foreign capital. This is one of the first initiatives of the anticipated package of laws aimed at addressing the economic crisis in the Andean country.
The proposal was requested by various productive sectors as a structural measure to change the country's image after nearly 20 years of leftist governments. Minister of Economy and Public Finance, José Gabriel Espinoza, stated that the initiative aims to provide security and predictability for investors, as well as to organize the dispersed incentives and legal norms.
The proposal has three pillars that seek to outline the path for the next 20 years, prioritizing sectors such as logistics, artificial intelligence, digital economy, innovation, and alternative energies, including hydrogen and solar energy, as well as sectors where productive capacities are already developed.
Espinoza assured that for nearly 20 years, property rights and constitutional rights have been violated without assuming any costs. He mentioned that a system of incentives and regulations will be created to provide predictability, security, stability, and trust to investors, both national and foreign, while respecting the Political Constitution of the State.
The president of the National Chamber of Industries, Gonzalo Morales, stated that to regain investor confidence, it is essential to guarantee legal security and regulatory predictability.
