Colts' Keenan Allen and Falcons' Za'Darius Smith sit out the teams' first joint practice

Keenan Allen sat out the Indianapolis Colts' first joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday, spending the session on the sideline after signing a one-year deal with the Colts less than 48 hours earlier. Za'Darius Smith, Atlanta's new edge rusher, also missed the workout because he had not yet arrived in town.
Allen said he chose Indianapolis because he is familiar with the offense and expects to be able to contribute quickly. He arrived Tuesday night and spent part of Wednesday reconnecting with Colts coach Shane Steichen, who was an assistant with the Chargers earlier in Allen's career.
The Colts are hoping the 34-year-old receiver can provide the kind of production he has delivered over 13 NFL seasons. Allen spent 12 seasons with the Chargers and is the franchise's career leader in receptions.
Both players could take part in the teams' second joint practice on Thursday.
