European leaders arrived in Kyiv on Monday to attend celebrations marking Ukraine’s Independence Day. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha welcomed the leaders which included European Council President António Costa, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and Moldovan President Maia Sandu, at Kyiv’s railway station.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy handed over the flag of a military unit during the ceremony to mark Ukraine Independence Day in Kyiv. The event also included a commemorative ceremony where Zelenskyy awarded European Council President Antonio Costa with a state award.
The celebrations took place amid ongoing conflict as Ukraine continues to face challenges from the Russian invasion.
