Fidelity Investments has announced plans to enhance its US spot Ethereum ETF, the Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH), by introducing Ethereum staking and quarterly cash dividends. The fund currently holds net assets of approximately $898 million.
Under typical circumstances, the fund is allowed to stake up to 100% of its Ethereum holdings, while maintaining a portion of its assets to ensure liquidity and meet redemption requests.
According to the revised registration statement, the fund will retain about 85% of the total staking rewards generated, with around 15% allocated as service fees to the fund sponsor, custodian, and node operators such as Blockdaemon, Figment, and Galaxy.
The net staking income will be utilized to cover the fund's expenses first, and any remaining amount will be distributed to fund holders as cash dividends at least quarterly, in accordance with IRS safe harbor rules. In cases where cash is needed for dividends, the fund may also sell a portion of its Ethereum holdings.
