In the study, patients received intismeran together with Merck's Keytruda, and the companies compared that approach with Keytruda alone. They said the combination helped patients stay free of cancer recurrence or metastasis for longer, but they did not provide data on overall survival.
The announcement sent Moderna shares up more than 120%, while Merck shares also gained about 11%. For markets, the news was positive for Moderna and Merck shares, and broadly neutral for other asset classes.
The companies said the results will be presented at an upcoming international medical meeting.
