Russian drones hit a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, a city in central Ukraine, on Friday, killing at least 15 people and wounding scores more, according to officials. The city is the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Regional authorities said 130 people were injured in the attack, including 23 children. Zelenskyy said the strike was a double-tap attack, meaning a second wave of drones followed the first as rescue workers arrived.
Authorities said separate Russian attacks in Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Mykolaiv regions also caused deaths on Friday, bringing the total number of people killed across the country that day to 21. Ukraine’s air force said it shot down or suppressed 52 of 107 drones launched overnight.
The attack came one day after a large Russian missile-and-drone barrage on Kyiv killed 16 people. Ukrainian officials said major Russian strikes have become frequent this summer, while Moscow has intensified attacks as Ukraine faces a shortage of air-defense systems.
