The attack came one day after the United Nations said July was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since the first weeks of Russia’s full-scale invasion. U.N. monitors in Kyiv said at least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 wounded in July.
The U.N. said civilian casualties have continued to rise this year, with the July toll 70% higher than in the same month last year and 30% higher than in June. Since Russia launched its invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, U.N. monitors say at least 16,874 civilians have been killed and 51,273 wounded, including children.
