Some U.S. Adults Use AI for Financial Guidance but Few Trust It, Gallup Poll Finds
- About 1 in 5 Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI.
- Only about 3 in 10 U.S. adults have confidence in AI's expertise for managing money.
- Younger generations are more likely to use AI for financial advice compared to older adults.
- Only about one-third of U.S. adults who sought financial advice turned to a professional financial adviser.
A recent Gallup survey found that while some U.S. adults are using artificial intelligence for financial guidance, it is not widely trusted. Approximately 20% of Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI, but only about 30% of U.S. adults expressed confidence in its financial expertise, with just 3% trusting it 'a great deal.'
The survey highlighted a disconnect between the sources Americans trust for financial advice and those they actually use. While 80% of U.S. adults have confidence in financial advisers, only one-third of those seeking advice consulted a professional, with 73% relying on their own internet research.
Younger generations, particularly Gen Z and millennials, are more inclined to use AI for financial advice, with 25% of Gen Z and 21% of millennials reporting they sought AI guidance. In contrast, only 7% of baby boomers turned to AI for financial advice. Financial experts caution consumers to be careful in fully trusting AI tools and suggest using them as a starting point for learning.
