Some US adults are using AI for financial guidance but few trust it, Gallup poll finds
- About 1 in 5 Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI.
- Only about 3 in 10 U.S. adults have confidence in AI's expertise for managing money.
- Younger generations are more likely to use AI for financial advice compared to older adults.
- About 8 in 10 U.S. adults have at least some confidence in financial advisers.
- The survey found that 73% of those seeking advice relied on their own internet research.
A recent Gallup survey conducted in partnership with Edward Jones revealed that some U.S. adults are using artificial intelligence (AI) for financial guidance, but it is not widely trusted. Approximately 20% of Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI, yet only about 30% of U.S. adults express confidence in AI's financial expertise, with just 3% trusting it a great deal.
The survey indicates a disparity between the sources Americans trust for financial advice and those they actually utilize. While about 80% of U.S. adults have some confidence in financial advisers, only one-third of those seeking advice consulted a professional, with a significant 73% relying on their own internet research.
Younger generations are more inclined to use AI for financial advice, with 25% of Gen Z and millennials having done so, compared to 16% of Gen X and 7% of baby boomers. However, a lower percentage of younger adults turned to professional financial advisers, with 14% of Gen Z and 21% of millennials seeking such guidance, compared to 34% of Gen X and 55% of baby boomers.
