Some US adults are using AI for financial guidance but few trust it, Gallup poll finds
- About 1 in 5 Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI.
- Only about 3 in 10 U.S. adults have confidence in AI's expertise for managing money.
- About 8 in 10 U.S. adults have confidence in financial advisers, while only one-third sought advice from them.
- Younger generations are more likely to use AI for financial advice compared to older adults.
- Affordability often deters younger adults from hiring professional financial advisers.
A recent Gallup survey found that some U.S. adults are utilizing artificial intelligence for financial guidance, though it is not widely trusted. Approximately 20% of Americans who sought financial advice in the last year turned to AI, but only about 30% of U.S. adults expressed confidence in its financial expertise, with merely 3% trusting it 'a great deal.'
The survey revealed a disparity between the sources of financial advice that Americans trust and those they actually use. While 80% of U.S. adults have at least some confidence in financial advisers, only one-third of those seeking advice consulted a professional. Instead, 73% relied on personal internet research.
Younger generations are more inclined to seek financial advice from AI, with 25% of Gen Z and millennials using it, compared to 16% of Gen X and 7% of baby boomers. Many younger adults cite affordability as a reason for not hiring a financial adviser, as online research and AI tools are often less costly.
