The tour group, based in Baltimore, had 40 guests and 7 tour guides, all of whom are now missing. Patel said she knows the hotel where her family was staying was swept away by the floodwaters.
Family members remain hopeful despite the dire circumstances. During a Zoom call with tour company officials, some relatives asked whether loved ones might be trapped in air pockets or if they could reach the disaster site. Sanket Pandey, managing director of the tour company, said families are desperate for any information about their missing relatives.
