AI evaluation company Vals AI said it has completed a $40 million Series A financing round at a post-money valuation of $400 million. Andreessen Horowitz led the round, while existing investors 8VC, Pear VC and Bloomberg Beta, along with new backers HRT Ventures and Next Ladder Ventures, also took part.
Founded by Rayan Krishnan and Langston Nashold, Vals AI describes itself as an independent evaluator for large models. It uses domain experts in areas including law, finance, healthcare and coding to score model outputs in real business settings.
The company said its private test sets are used in limited quantities to reduce the risk of models being trained on the test data or gaming leaderboards. It also said its evaluation results have been included in model cards from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and xAI, and are used by enterprises when selecting production models.
Vals AI said its 2025 revenue grew eightfold year over year, its customer count doubled, and its team tripled over the past six months. The development is neutral to the wider markets, with no direct stock, crypto, gold or FX market impact indicated in the report.
