PANews, August 29 — After Federal Reserve Chair Waller spoke on curbing inflationary pressures, market bets on Fed rate hikes rose significantly, the dollar strengthened, and precious metals such as gold came under heavy pressure.
Spot gold dropped 2.6% intraday, a decline of more than $120, to $4,480 per ounce, and at one point hit a one-week low of $4,464.
Independent analyst Tai Wong noted: “Chair Waller made clear that inflation has not yet shown a substantial slowdown and stressed that the Fed ‘still has work to do,’ a stance that triggered heavy selling in the gold market.
Although this may still be a communication strategy of ‘all bark and no bite,’ it was enough to make the market view the September meeting as a toss-up between a hike and a pause.”
Waller’s remarks were his closest public acknowledgment to date that further rate hikes may be needed to ease price pressures.

沃勒的言论是他迄今为止对进一步加息可能需要的最明确的公开承认。
