Wyndham Clark kept Bellerive under control again on Friday, posting a second straight 6-under 64 to move to 12-under 128 and open a one-shot lead at the BMW Championship in St. Louis. He did not make a bogey in the round and said he had few concerns about his game through 36 holes.
Gary Woodland stayed close with a 65, finishing strongly with birdies at the last two holes. Woodland, who grew up in Kansas, is trying to reach the Tour Championship for the first time in six years while managing the effects of brain surgery he had in 2023.
J.J. Spaun shot 66 on his 36th birthday and stood two shots behind Clark. Clark, Woodland and Spaun had already locked up places in the FedEx Cup top 30, which advances to the season finale at East Lake in Atlanta next week.
Woodland said he is trying to manage his energy and focus one day at a time as he deals with the physical demands of competing. Clark, meanwhile, enters the weekend with the lead after two steady rounds at Bellerive.
