According to Nomura Holdings' latest research, India is experiencing significant job growth driven by artificial intelligence. Between 2022 and August 2026, the country is expected to see approximately 83,100 new hires in AI-related roles, while layoffs and natural attrition are projected to total around 31,900.
The report highlights that AI-driven job creation is outpacing job reductions, indicating a net positive impact on employment in the sector. Most of the layoffs are occurring in customer service and support roles, which are increasingly being replaced by chatbots.
In contrast, the new job opportunities are primarily for technical talent, as IT services firms seek to meet the growing demand for AI expertise. Nomura's analysis suggests that India is becoming a 'test bed' for assessing AI's impact on employment due to its large scale.
However, the report also notes a mismatch in skill requirements, as the jobs being replaced often do not align with the qualifications needed for the newly created AI positions. This trend is contributing to the formation of a 'dual labor market' in India, similar to what is observed in South Korea, with increasing demand for mid-to-high-end talent.
