On April 10, the SEC approved a rule change that allows Nasdaq to extend U.S. stock trading hours to 23 hours a day, five days a week. This new trading schedule is set to begin on December 6, 2026.
The trading sessions will be structured with a daytime session running from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, followed by an overnight session from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. ET the next day. There will be a one-hour pause in trading from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.
It is important to note that the actual launch of the overnight trading session is contingent upon the readiness of the Securities Information Processor (SIP) and the completion of necessary regulatory procedures. Therefore, while December 6 is the planned launch date, it is not guaranteed.
