Fidelity Investments has announced plans to introduce Ethereum staking and quarterly cash dividends for its spot Ethereum ETF, the Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH). The fund currently holds net assets of approximately $898 million and has the capacity to stake up to 100% of its ETH holdings under normal circumstances.
According to the revised registration statement, the fund will retain about 85% of total staking rewards, while approximately 15% will be allocated as service fees to the fund sponsor, custodian, and node operators.
The net staking income generated will first be utilized to cover the fund's expenses, and any remaining income will be distributed to holders as cash dividends at least quarterly, in compliance with IRS safe harbor rules. In certain situations, the fund may also sell a portion of its ETH to raise the necessary cash for dividends.
