General Mills announced on Wednesday that it has eliminated artificial colors from all its cereals in the United States, including Lucky Charms and Trix. The Minneapolis-based company has switched to using fruit and vegetable-based dyes, as well as colors derived from spices like turmeric and paprika, to achieve the bright hues of its cereals.
Bethany Quam, president of cereals at General Mills, stated that this change reflects the company's evolution in response to consumer needs while continuing to offer tasty, high-quality food products.
Currently, 90% of General Mills' retail products in the U.S. no longer contain artificial colors. The company noted that products still containing artificial colors, such as some Betty Crocker cake mixes and Fruit Roll-Ups, will transition to natural dyes by the end of 2027.
