BEIRUT (AP) — Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon killed at least 11 people Saturday, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry and state news agency. The attacks were described as the deadliest since a fragile truce between Israel and Hezbollah took effect on June 20.
One of the strikes targeted a home on the edge of Ansar, where seven people were killed, including three children, and two others were wounded. A second strike hit Deir al-Zahrani, killing four people and injuring 17.
The report also noted that Israel and the Lebanese government had announced a framework agreement on June 26 that envisions an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon in exchange for the disarmament of Hezbollah, although Hezbollah rejected direct talks and was not part of the deal.
