DeLind said the gallery sticker was still attached to the back of the work, confirming it was his. He said the piece had been appraised at between $35,000 and $50,000 when it was stolen, and he believes its value may be similar now, though the artwork's story could affect what it is worth.
Milwaukee police said the case remains under investigation. The artwork is currently in police custody while the person who commissioned DeLind to sell it works with an insurance company, according to DeLind. He said his former business partner, who died in February, had continued asking police to publicize the theft each year in hopes the piece would eventually turn up.
