Scottie Scheffler opened the FedEx St. Jude Championship with a 9-under 61 on Friday and moved to 11-under 129 through two rounds. He birdied his first five holes, finished with 11 birdies and two bogeys, and tied the tournament course record at TPC Southwind.
Scheffler said it was a strong start and noted that he still had work left over the weekend. He entered the playoff opener with a large FedExCup points lead and has not won at TPC Southwind despite multiple previous starts there.
Viktor Hovland and Sungjae Im were tied for second at 8 under after 36 holes, with Ludvig Aberg one shot behind them at 7 under. Jordan Spieth was at 6 under, and Matt Fitzpatrick stood at 3 under after his second round.
