BANGKOK (AP) — Shares were mixed Wednesday in Europe and Asia ahead of the release of key U.S. inflation data for July, while oil prices advanced as doubts persisted over when the war with Iran will allow crude to flow freely again.
The future for the S&P 500 gained 0.2%, while that for the Dow Jones Industrial Average was nearly unchanged. In early European trading, Germany’s DAX rose 0.3% to 26,480.04, while the CAC 40 in Paris fell 0.2%, to 8,698.79. Britain’s FTSE 100 edged 0.1% lower.
During Asian trading, Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.8% to 67,524.06. In South Korea, the Kospi gained 3.7% to 6,579.04 on renewed buying of computer chipmakers. The price of a barrel of Brent crude, the international standard, was up 1% at $89.79 early Wednesday.
Iran has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s comment regarding compensation in talks to end the war, while concerns about regional shipping routes persist due to renewed hostilities.
