Some US adults are using AI for financial guidance but few trust it, Gallup poll finds
- About 1 in 5 Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI.
- Only about 3 in 10 U.S. adults have confidence in AI's expertise for managing money.
- Approximately 8 in 10 U.S. adults have at least some confidence in financial advisers.
- Younger generations are more likely to use AI for financial advice compared to older adults.
- The poll surveyed 5,075 U.S. adults aged 21 and older.
A recent Gallup survey found that while some U.S. adults are using artificial intelligence for financial guidance, it is not the most trusted source of advice. About 1 in 5 Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI, but only about 30% of U.S. adults expressed confidence in its expertise for managing money.
The survey indicated a significant difference between the sources Americans trust for financial advice and those they actually use. Approximately 80% of U.S. adults have confidence in financial advisers, yet only about one-third of those seeking financial advice consulted a professional adviser, with 73% relying on their own internet research.
Younger generations are more inclined to use AI for financial guidance, with about a quarter of Gen Z and millennial adults seeking advice from AI, compared to 16% of Gen Xers and 7% of baby boomers. Financial experts advise caution when using AI for financial decisions, emphasizing the importance of combining AI insights with trusted sources.
