Some US adults are using AI for financial guidance but few trust it, Gallup poll finds
- About 1 in 5 Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI.
- Only about 3 in 10 U.S. adults have confidence in AI's expertise for managing money.
- Younger generations are more likely to use AI for financial advice compared to older adults.
- About 8 in 10 U.S. adults have confidence in financial advisers, but only one-third sought professional advice.
- Financial experts caution consumers to verify AI advice with trusted sources.
A recent Gallup survey found that while some U.S. adults are using artificial intelligence for financial guidance, it is not a highly trusted source. Approximately 20% of Americans who sought financial advice in the past year turned to AI, but only about 30% of U.S. adults expressed a great deal or some confidence in AI's financial expertise.
The survey indicated a notable difference between the resources Americans trust and those they actually use. While 80% of U.S. adults have at least some confidence in financial advisers, only about one-third of those seeking financial advice consulted a professional adviser, with a significant 73% relying on their own internet research.
Younger generations, particularly Gen Z and millennials, are more inclined to use AI for financial advice compared to older generations. However, hiring a professional financial adviser remains a less common choice among these younger adults due to affordability concerns. Financial experts recommend using AI as a supplementary tool while verifying information through trusted sources.
