A South Korean court has sentenced Hak Ja Han, the leader of the Unification Church, to two years in prison for corruption charges. The Seoul Central District Court found her guilty of violating political fund laws, bribery, and embezzlement of church funds.
Han, who is 83 years old and the widow of the church's founder, Sun Myung Moon, was arrested in September 2025. She was accused of conspiring with church officials to provide luxury goods to then-first lady Kim Keon Hee in exchange for political favors.
In addition to Han's sentence, the court sentenced a church official to six months in prison and issued suspended sentences to two others involved in the case. The Unification Church has stated that it will appeal the ruling against Han.
