‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ beats ‘Avengers: Endgame’ box office record
- "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" opened with $360 million in the U.S. and Canada, setting a new North American opening-weekend record.
- The previous record was held by "Avengers: Endgame," which opened with $357 million in 2019.
- Sony said the film performed better than its Sunday projection and finished above the earlier estimate of $355 million.
- The movie is the fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland.
- Its release, along with "The Odyssey," helped produce the biggest weekend ever for North American movie theaters.
Sony Pictures said "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" earned $360 million in ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada during its opening weekend, breaking the North American record previously held by "Avengers: Endgame." Sony had projected $355 million on Sunday, but the film came in higher after a stronger-than-expected final day.
Before "Endgame," no film had opened above $300 million domestically. The prior high marks were "Avengers: Infinity War" with $257 million in 2018 and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with $247 million in 2015.
The film is Tom Holland's fourth outing as Spider-Man. Sony said its release, together with "The Odyssey," also helped drive the biggest weekend ever for North American movie theaters.
