Chief Justice John Roberts noted that nothing prevents President Trump from attempting to fire Cook again, provided she is given proper notice and a chance to contest it.
In a recent letter, White House aide Dan Scavino informed Cook that Trump was considering her removal but noted the requirement for proper notice, giving her until August 26 to challenge it. The allegations against Cook stem from a criminal referral last August that accused her of declaring two homes as her primary residence to obtain better mortgage rates.
Cook has defended herself against these allegations, asserting that they are a manufactured pretext for her removal due to her refusal to yield to political pressure. Her lawyer has maintained that her mortgage applications were accurate and did not reflect any intent to defraud.
