At his introductory news conference, Miller said the move felt like a “dream within a dream” because it connected two childhood ambitions: playing in the NFL and playing for the Cowboys. He said memories of his father celebrating Cowboys victories helped shape that connection, even though his mother was not a fan.
Miller said the signing came together in part because of existing relationships with members of the Cowboys’ staff and roster. He has worked with pass rush consultant B.T. Jordan, coordinator Christian Parker and line coach Marcus Dixon, and has also crossed paths with several Cowboys players, including Dak Prescott.
The 37-year-old said he believes he can still produce after recording nine sacks last season for Washington in a carefully managed role. He has not settled on a jersey number yet, though he joked about negotiating with fullback Hunter Luepke, who was also wearing No. 40 during practice.
