Five of the six Buss siblings said they remain committed to selling the family trust's remaining minority stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, despite opposition from their sister Jeanie Buss. In a statement to ESPN, Johnny, Jimmy, Janie, Joey and Jesse Buss said they were united in the decision and would proceed through the proper process.
The siblings said Monday that they had voted to sell the trust's 17.8% stake to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. Kushner and Iger are part of the group that is buying majority control of the team from Mark Walter.
Jeanie Buss responded later Monday through a letter from her attorney, Adam Streisand, saying she would challenge the move. She contends the shares cannot be sold without her approval.
The report said that if the sale closes, Jeanie Buss would no longer be able to serve as the Lakers' governor. Under the ownership deal reached last year when Walter bought majority control, she is scheduled to hold that role through at least 2030.
