The result gave Makhachev a UFC-record 17 straight wins, moving him past the mark he had shared with Anderson Silva. The judges scored the fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.
Makhachev took visible damage during the fight, including cuts and bruising on his face, and was tested by Garry throughout the matchup. In the second round, a head kick briefly dropped Garry, but he recovered and finished the round.
Makhachev had won the welterweight title in his first attempt when he beat Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 in November 2025. UFC CEO Dana White said the streak could become hard to match if Makhachev continues fighting.
