Brigance was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2007. After that, he and his wife, Chanda, created the Brigance Brigade Foundation, which focuses on helping and supporting people with ALS.
Despite the disease, Brigance remained part of the Ravens organization as a senior adviser for player engagement. He used a wheelchair and a communication device, and team figures described him as a source of motivation inside the franchise.
