‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ breaks ‘Avengers: Endgame’ box office record

Sony Pictures said "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" set a new North American opening weekend record with $360 million in ticket sales from the U.S. and Canada. The film, starring Tom Holland, opened in 4,487 theaters.
The result beat the previous record of $357 million held by "Avengers: Endgame." Sony had initially projected a $355 million debut on Sunday, but the movie finished higher after a stronger-than-expected final day of the weekend.
The report said the fourth Holland-led Spider-Man film joined a short list of the highest-grossing domestic openings. Before "Avengers: Endgame," no film had opened above $300 million domestically.
Sony also said the film's release, together with "The Odyssey," helped create the biggest weekend ever for North American movie theaters. Rentrak said domestic box office revenue is up more than 15% from a year ago, with more than $6.2 billion in ticket sales so far this year.

索尼还表示，《蜘蛛侠：全新日》和《奥德赛》同时上映，推动北美影院迎来史上最高的周末总票房。Rentrak称，美国和加拿大本土票房同比增长超过15%，今年以来累计票房已超过62亿美元。
